Bengal Cat is the
result of the outcross between a domestic feline and an Asian leopard cat and
it becomes the hybrid breed of domestic cat. Looking at the origin of its name,
the word ‘Bengal’ was derived from the taxonomic name which has the same meaning
as the Asian leopard cat. The person who gave a great influence towards the Cat
breeds from this type was Jean Mill. Moreover, there were also Greg and
Elizabeth that developed their distinctive breeds from ALCs and Egyptian Maus.
The modern Bengal Cat is the result of this line. TICA registered these Types
of cats as a popular breed.
Previously, DEFRA
required the breeders to have certain license but the licensing were removed in
the US and some domestic cats are developed in 2007. Some results of the developed
varieties of domestic Cats are The Serengeti cat which is the result of the
Siamese and Oriental Shorthair, The Toyger is the result of the domestic cats
and The Cheetoh is the result of the two domestic breeds. One of the crosses
result is the long-haired Bengal Cat. This type of cat is the result of the
crosses between the Asian Leopard cats. Since they own the recessive
long-haired genes they still can produce long-haired Bengals when they are
mated.
The Bengal Cat is
recognized as a gentle domestic cat. They are very loyal to their owner but
they should be removed as the pet after at least four generation from the
leopard cat. As the result of the hybridization, The Bengal Cat gained its
popularity in the late 1960s and those who raise these Types of cats keep them
exist due to the rarity of the genes. There are several Bengal colors that are
recognized as the special breeds like seal lynx, brown, mink, sepia and silver.
They are recognizable for their unique coat colors.
