Savannah Cats is one of domestic hybrid cat breeds. They are a cross
between the serval, a cat from Africa, and a domestic cat. At first, the cross
was not really popular but in the 1990s it became more popular among breeders.
The popularity of these Cat breeds increased when the International Cat
Association allowed them in the new registered breed during 2001. Moreover,
TICA admitted them as the championship breed in 2012. The first Savannah cat
was crossed on the 7th of April, 1986 between a male serval and a
Siamese, a domestic cat. Not only that, these Types of cats were introduced for
the first time in a great cat show located in Westchester, New York in 1997 by
one of many breeders, Joyce Sroufe.
Compared with other
breeds, Savannah Cats are the largest-sized of breed from domesticated cats.
The initial generations of Savannah has more than 20 pounds of weight for males
and the later generations can weigh between 7 and 30 pounds. Regardless of
their weight, these Cats are tall and slim so they look great in their size.
Then, the Savannahs mostly have the same coat, dark spotted form, and it makes
them look unique. The Savannahs also are very loyal to their owner and they are
easy to train although some of them are quite shy when meeting new people.
The Savannahs require
an easy care so you do not need to worry if you take them as your pet. As soon
as they come to your house, give basic trainings to them to make the adjusting
with your family habit. This kind of treatment is also good to avoid the bad
habits that might appear in Savannah Cats. Then, try to avoid cat food
containing high preservative. It is better to feed them with natural food from
fruits rather than with a canned-food.
