Siamese Cat: the Moon Diamond

In Thai, “Siamese” has a meaning of moon diamonds. No wonder, the cat truly has the white glowing soothing fur like the moon and diamond beams. Siamese cat has been known as the well-distinguished oriental cat. In the 20th century, the cat’s popularity rose and became a popular cat breed throughout Europe and North America.


Some experts say that there are differences between the traditional and the modern Siamese cat. The differences were created by breeding the selected generation, based on the market demands. They lay on the eyes, head shape, ears, and the body. The traditional Siamese cat has a pair of clear blue almond-shaped eyes. This part is pretty stunning. The head has triangular shape. It has larger pointy ears. The tail is elongated, and the body is more slender and muscular. The characteristics literally build a graceful and strong impression.

How about the life span? A Swedish Insurance Data shows that a Siamese cat can live up to 12.5 years. It means that they have a high mortality compared to the other breeds. In average, a Siamese cat can live for 10 to 12.5 years. The majority died because of neoplasm. They also have higher risk for neoplastic and gastrointestinal problem. But they have lower risk of feline lower urinary tract disease.

The development of siamese cat breeding has contributes to the diversity of cats and kittens species. Balinese cat, Burmese cat, Havana Brown, Himalayan, Javanese, Ocicat, Snowshoe, and Savanah are some of the derivations.
